- They will be a top 5, possibly a top 3 defense: The run defense will be stellar, allowing under 90 ypg. Pass defense will still not be lights out but should be much improved from the 2009 season, I'm thinking top 15 maybe top 10.
- Now this prediction somewhat hinges on a non-controllable factor, but can still be likely without it happening. If Kurt Warner retires (handing the Cardinals QB duties to Matt Leinart) I guarantee a NFC West crown for the 49ers. Now if Warner decides to stay for one last season I can no longer "guarantee" the division, but I can give it as much as a 90% chance of happening. Leinart is significantly worse than Warner and will very much subdue the Cards potent pass first offense.
- This one I'm technically stealing borrowing from Trent Dilfer, but I totally agree with him, so I'll act like it's mine. The 49ers in 2009 were the best NFC team to not make the playoffs. I can easily see them being the Jets of this playoff season. With a solid defense and what I think will be an above average offense the 49ers will make the NFC Divisional round. I'm not so sure about the 1st round bye Dilfer talks about, but hey, I wouldn't be mad if it happened.
So there you have it, my 3 bold predictions for the 49ers in 2010. Any criticism or praises? Leave them in the comments!
